FESTIVE COLLECTION
"Information Overload"
Pop art, mash-ups, clashing colours and a blend of seemingly incongruous elements feature in the first collection. It’s all about embracing the sensory bombardment we face in this rapid-fire world and making sense of them in your own way.
LABEL CONCEPT
Jaunty Boys by Coupé-cousu
Jaunty Boys is a celebration of youth, youth not as a number but the embodiment of all things youthful - taking chances with the now, an unbridled curiosity and brimming optimism, the relentless energy in pursuit of freedom and a sense of self.
Coupé-cousu was founded in 2008 with one goal in mind: to design clothes for real men who give a damn. With no formal training in fashion design and little more than pure heart and love for menswear, Alex and Shangqian began creating their first shirt. Their fascination with traditional tailoring and appreciation of something laboriously handmade cemented the label's approach to fashion - design built upon the foundation of classic craftsmanship and quality.
They approach menswear quite pragmatically. They always try to marry form and function, never get carried away with design for design's sake. By engineering details and tinkering with the garment's construction, they want to create clothes that are easily worn by the everyday man, someone who wants an interesting and versatile wardrobe that gets him noticed, but not in a vulgar way.
DESIGNERS PROFILE
Xie Shangqian graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management in 2009. Deciding that life's too short to worry about the whatifs, he chose to pursue his lesser-known-interest -— fashion. When not tearing his hair out over designs and the stitch-per-inch of his shirts, Shangqian likes to read, think and write about random interests.
Alex Yeo left his one-year stint as an auditor in an international accounting firm after much contemplation (mostly that of money), to found Coupé-cousu with Shangqian. His strong inclination towards fashion saw him working part-time in luxury boutiques like Ralph Lauren and Bally during his varsity years. In his spare time, he enjoys a sweaty game of basketball, a steaming bowl of "hei mee" and the waxy scent of a freshly unwrapped fashion magazine.
